Lunch with Jordon and Darren Saturday, Jan 11 2003

Great lunch on Friday with Jordon and Darren. However, Jordon keeps making fun of my age, which really doesn’t bother me much! He’s knows I have great wisdom to offer in spite of my age or maybe it’s because of my age I have wisdom. Whatever!

We are off to Calgary so Tamara can head out on her journeys. We have had some interesting days in our household with packing; completing a paper for her last University credit; deciding what to take and what not to take; deciding again when the suitcases are full and there is no more room; lots of fun. We will be back late Tuesday afternoon.

Great to see Brooke and Kelly back in the Dominican Republic. Great time with them over the holidays. They are very special people.

Today Thursday, Jan 9 2003

Long day today! Having lunch with Jordon Cooper tomorrow. Should be good. I am not sure what we will disagree on this time, but I am sure it will be an invigorating conversation! Just experiencing life these days. Creating my future together with God the Holy Spirit. With His guidance and wisdom, I need not fear.

Prayer of Jabez Wednesday, Jan 8 2003

Can you believe the behaviour of one Jordon Cooper who would throw a copy of Prayer of Jabez out his car window and then try to say it was Kelly’s copy. Even if it was Kelly’s copy, Jordon needs to acknowledge the many lives that have been changed by this book and how it has expanded their borders. Come on Jordon, get with the program!!!

If you have checked out the picture of Matt and Jes, just wanted you to know that Matt is our son, and Jes, is his wonderful wife. They love the outdoors and just completed a Wilderness Guide Course at Yamnuska. They did wonderful things like mountain climbing; rock climbing; ice falls climbing; hiking; avalanche rescue; glacier rescue; wilderness first aid; etc. They are now living in Canmore, Alberta, making money to live. We are heading to see them this weekend. We will be together as a family before our daughter, Tamara, heads off for Thailand and Taiwan on Monday afternoon. We have great fun with our kids. They are the best!

My good “old” friend Dennis called me yesterday from Calgary to wish me “Happy New Year”. Dennis once-upon-a-time worked at Lakeview. His office was right across the hallway from mine and it was my job to keep him “entirely sanctified”. Only Methodists will know what I am talking about!!! It was great to hear from him. His encouragement keeps me on track. I need all the help I can get at my age.

This and that Friday, Jan 3 2003

The weather is something else today. Drove Tamara to work and very bad fog and icy roads. Cars in the ditches along the way.

This weekend Dave Ashton from Rocky Mountain Bible College is teaching a class on Wesleyan Theology. Full days Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am to 9:30 pm. Long days! We will be finished by 11:00 am on Sunday morning.

Was able to finish reading the book “Abraham” A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Has given me lots of food for thought. Written well and easy to read. Great gift from Tom for Christmas. Also did a quick re-read of “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis. Good stuff.

Have a great weekend.

New Years Eve Tuesday, Dec 31 2002

December 31st the end of 2002. What a year this has been! Lots of good stuff!

Had a great day yesterday. Brooke and Kelly Graham came over at about 10:00 am for coffee and homemade cinnamon buns (made by Tamara). The day ended with them leaving about 11:30 pm. We just hung out all day. Kelly was able to pick up his Christmas present at McNally Robinson Bookstore. We met Kelly’s cousin, Reid, as well and he spent the day with us. Great guy! Kelly and Brooke have been in the Dominican Republic for the past 5 months. They have learned soooooo much and have “grown up” in so many ways (Kelly turned 30 on November 22nd). They are very special people in our lives and we are so proud of them. Lots of character building! Not always a fun experience but a necessary one in life.

Now, there was a special person in my life by the name of Geordon Cooper. However, after spending lunch with him and some other great people enjoying “spicy soup”, he then derided my wholesome reputation by posting an entirely unsanctified picture of a person who was “supposedly” me on his blog. I have always trusted Geordon, however, he is going to have to earn my trust back!!!

New Year’s resolutions: I have never been good at these because I invariably don’t follow through, but one resolution I am hoping to follow through on this year is reading through the Bible in 2003. Lakeview Church has encouraged our people to read through the Bible in 2003. Great opportunity! In January 1999 I started a study through the Bible, starting in Genesis. Today I will finish the last 4 chapters of Revelation – my study through Genesis to Revelation is completed – it took me 4 years. I am a bit of a “slow” learner! Reading it through this year will be different, in that, we will read some of the Old Testament; New Testament; Psalms; and Proverbs each day. I am looking forward to that.

We have experienced an exceedingly wonderful Christmas season. Our home has been filled with many people over the holidays and we have consumed much food and enjoyed many laughs. “Laughter doeth good like a medicine” the Scripture says and I hardly agree. We have many wonderful friends who have enriched our lives over the years. We received word today that a dear friend of ours from Brandon, Manitoba, Suzanne Bartlette, suddenly was taken from this earth to join her Heavenly Father. When Jerry and I moved to Brandon, Manitoba, in 1973, not knowing anyone in that City, Peter and Suzanne reached out to us and we became very good friends. It is hard to believe that life passes so quickly. Our sympathy and prayers go out to Peter and their 3 children.

Have a great New Year! May God’s richest blessings be yours in 2003.

Merry Christmas to all! Wednesday, Dec 25 2002

I have just received this Christmas Gift from Jordon and Jeb. It is a little frightening for me, however, I am so excited that I have been included with the natives! Thanks for your messages of encouragement Jeb, John and Allison, Darren, and Cathy. With all the new books I have received for gifts, I should be able to “wax eloquent” with all the learning I will be doing.

Merry Christmas Tuesday, Dec 24 2002

Oh Gloria, I hope you enjoy this little present where you can chat it up with the rest of us natives. Thanks for being who you are, it means so much to me. Oh, and I thought the choking thing at the top was playful, it gives a little insight into your zany character. Yeah, I know I’m dead. But thanks for being caring when I was alive.

Merry Christmas Tuesday, Dec 24 2002

Happy Christmas Gloria!!! I hope you enjoy this gift (even if it’s not from me). You are so wonderful to have around. Thank you for helping to keep me sane.

Seasons Greeting’s Thursday, Dec 19 2002

Am off to eat your food while you are reading this. Mark is probably playing your piano with sticky fingers. Must go and stop him. – Wendy

Merry Christmas Gloria! Thursday, Dec 19 2002

Merry Christmas!
Welcome to the dark and mysterious world of the Illuminati, err, I mean blogging (same difference). Jeb, John, or I can help you change anything you don’t like or add anything that you want. Since there is a some good chance that I am reading this over your shoulder on Christmas morning, I should get downstairs before Mark breaks anything or does anything to my coffee.
